GE Healthcare is a $15 billion business division of General Electric Company, employing more than 43,000 people worldwide. GE Healthcare Biosciences, formerly Amersham Biosciences prior to acquisition by GE in 2004, has two business divisions - Discovery Systems (DS) and Protein Separations (PS), experts in medical imaging and information technologies, medical diagnostics, disease research, drug discovery and biopharmaceutical manufacturing technologies.
GE had a companywide initiative on Growth in 2005, which was echoed in the conference objectives:
